Employee State Insurance scheme was inaugurated in Kanpur on 24th February 1952 by then Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Employee State Insurance is a self financing social security and health insurance scheme for low income workers. ESIC oversees the provision of medical and cash benefits to the employees and their family through its large network of branch offices, dispensaries and hospitals throughout India.
